Why a Masters? Why #Marketing?

I created this ePortfolio (and as a result, this blog!) as part of the requirements to obtain my Masters of Media and Communications at #RutgersUniversity. If you already did a little exploration of my portfolio you may be asking, haven't you been in marketing forever? Why do a Masters now? I thought I started this Masters to ensure my academic credentials matched the work experience I've been fortunate to have. However, as I've gone to the program, I've realized that I also simply love marketing and the program is a way to not only tune up my academic knowledge, but to network and learn from the next generation of communicators. This project marks the halfway point to graduation - one more year to go! - and it's been both difficult and rewarding.

I've decided to run with this opportunity and use this blog as the place where I can discuss the marketing work that inspires me - a collage of ideas to reference for myself and for anyone that wants to have a conversation about how different campaigns masterfully weave target knowledge, current events and product details to establish an ongoing conversation with possible customers, whether that is taking a break to #StayPlayful (Oreo) or how Amazon's supremely simple online shopping experience allowed them to capitalize on drunken online shopping (an estimated $48 billion/year segment! Who knew?)

Ultimately, what I enjoy the most about marketing is the challenge: figuring out how to reach people to let them know about products and services at the right time in their consumer journey, so they ultimately have the information to make choices that can enhance their life (or buy a case of Doritos online at 3AM ;)

If you have any campaigns you love, please share them! It's interesting to see what moves people and why.

Until next time!
